How do I open .docx files in Word 97?

I need to send my CV to a job agency but I can’t seem to open it. I last edited in on a friend’s computer with Office 2007 and am now on my own machine (which has Word 97 on it). How can I open the docx file?

I got this question from a young friend of mine who was trying to send a CV for a job he found on a Miami Job Search site. Well, unfortunately there’s nothing that Microsoft supply that lets you open docx files on Word 97. You must remember that this is 13 years old now and has been out of support for some time. You might want to consider moving to a more recent version of the software.

Is that’s not an option there is a work around. You could download a copy of Open Office, a free Office Applications suite that lets you open and save documents in a variety of formats. It should handle docx files quite easily and it should also let you save the document in Word 97 format. You will have to keep in mind however that you may lose some of your formatting along the way, as the more recent versions of Word let you do things that the old version doesn’t.

One suggestion I have is that you might want to stick with Open Office. It’s a better product (in my humble opinion) than Word 97, at least, it’s much more recent and has better support.

Which NVIDIA drivers do I need?

I have a laptop that has an Nvidia graphics card, at least that’s what the sticker on the outside days. The laptop is manufactured by some Korean outfit and they don’t seem to have a website. I’m looking for the video drivers for the card, is there some where else I can download them from?

You’re in luck here a Nvidia is one of the major card producers and have their own website where you can download drivers for all their products. Even better than that, their website even has a facility that will scan your computer and figure out what card you’re using and then point you in the direction of the driver you need.

Here’s what you do, head to the Nvidia Driver Download page, where you will see a page like this:

Click on Graphics Drivers (circled above) and let the site install the required software and scan your system. It should then point you at the driver you need to make it all happen. Simple huh? I wish it was that easy to get replacement bulbs for my lighting fixtures, I always seem to get the wrong type whenever a bulb blows!

Why do I get Error Code 5 on Yahoo Mail?

My wife and I use Yahoo Mail on our computers but often have problems with the site reporting Error Code 5. Is this common and how do we get about fixing it?

I’ve have a poke around Yahoo Help and Yahoo Answers and it looks that the reason behind Error Code 5 is that you’re trying to use the same account from more than one place. There are a number of reasons why this might be happening:

You could have more than one tab on your browser pointing at Yahoo Mail
You could be using a desktop client (like Outlook) while trying to use your web mail
You and your wife could be sharing the same email account and trying to access it at the same time

I’m not sure what you’re doing, but Yahoo Mail is designed to be used by one user at a time. System security sometimes locks down things tighter than an mmf drawer, but it’s usually just a matter of understanding what’s going on so that you can get around the problem.

Let me know if you’re doing any of those things above.

An interesting page on CNN outlines the top 100 best companies to work for. The top three are SAS, Edward Jones and Wegmans but there are also a number of other well known names in there. It doesn’t matter if you went to the best business school or just followed one of those medical coding training courses, it’s good to have faith in your employer and to know you work somewhere that you can be proud of.
