How do I set up email on my iPad?

I just got myself an iPad and am trying to figure out how to set up my email. How do I do it?

I haven’t had an opportunity to play with an iPad, but I’ve researched your problem and here’s what I found.

To set up mail

Tap Mail
Select your account type. Tap Other if your account is not listed.
Enter your account information and tap Save. Mail configures most email accounts automatically. Otherwise, you will be prompted for any additional settings.
Once your account information is saved – you can start sending and receiving email.

You can configure additional accounts by tapping Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account

Check SMTP settings

Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Under Accounts, tap the account from which you’re trying to send mail.
Under Outgoing Mail Server, tap SMTP.
Tap the SMTP server for your email account and verify the settings are correct.
If you have multiple email accounts on iPad, try using an SMTP server from another account. Tap the SMTP account and Select On on the On/Off slider.

There you have it; not as easy as turning on the porch lights, but not hard either.

I have a coupon I’d like to use from Buy.com and I’ve been looking at their range of webcams. There seem to be many to choose from; could you recommend one for me?

The webcam you choose really depends on what you’re after. Webcams are fairly similar in nature, but there are some differences, for example the newer models can capture HD video and have features that enable them to focus automatically on the subject in front of the camera.

So, I had a look at some different models, and if it were up to me, I would choose the Microsoft LifeCam HD-5000 Webcam. Cutting down the extra bits

Here’s an interesting plugin. It’s called WPlite and lets you hide extra bits from your Administration menu. If you’re preparing a site for someone else to use, then having all the menu options that WordPress provides can be a bit of a heavy burden. This plugin acts like Phentermine 37.5, but instead of helping someone shed pounds, it help you shed items from your menus, making it more palatable for users without an expert background.

Here’s what WPLite promises

WPlite (“WordPress lite”) is a WordPress plugin that lets you hide ‘unnecessary’ items from the WordPress administration menu—even the Dashboard. On top of that, you can also hide post meta controls on the Write page, so as to simplify the editing interface.

The result: a minimal, Zen-like WordPress administration area.

How do I backup my Internet Explorer favourites?

I have a large collection of Favourites in Internet Explorer and would like to back them up so that if anything happened to my machine I wouldn’t lose them. Where are they stored and how can I back them up?

If you back up your machine at the moment, your Internet Explorer Favourites will be backed up also. Backing up your machine is really important, so making sure you have a regular backup is key to bringing it back if you have any problems.

If it’s just your Favourites you want to backup, these are stored in your Profile under a folder called Favourites. You’ll find all your Favourites there, whether they are links to the best gadget sites, page that tell you how to fade stretch marks or link to some of the most addictive games on the web. You can zip this up and place it on a USB stick

WordCamp this weekend

There are only a few days left before it’s WordCamp time! I’m thrilled to be able to go to WordCamp UK this year. I’ve been wanting to go since I heard about WordCamps, and this one just happened to fit really neatly. It’s in Manchester which means I can boat and train my way there. I may even do some shopping, though I won’t be carrying any wholesale appliances back home. I do want to have a play with an iPad if I find one in the shops, but there are so many things going on, I’m not sure if I’ll find the time for a spot of retail therapy.

So, what’s on the cards? Well, I haven’t had a chance to really study the Running Order, but there are a few sessions that look quite interesting. There are also a number of WordHack sessions which look quite challenging. I’ll keep blogging about it.
